Course Overview: The Dental Assisting Foundations Training Program provides participants with the foundational knowledge and skills in infection control, dental radiology, and chairside dental assisting to prepare for an entry level position as a dental assistant in general dentistry.
Course Goals:
1. Prepare participants for an entry-level position as a chairside dental assistant.
2. Prepare participants to successfully complete the Dental Assisting
National Board ® Infection Control Exam ®.
3. Prepare participants to successfully complete the Dental Assisting
National Board ® Radiation Health and Safety Exam ® as needed to apply
to the Maine Board of Dental Practice for Dental Radiography Licensure
Prerequisites: Must be 18 years or older, High school Diploma, GED/HiSET or Equivalent
Program Length: 10 Weeks
Directed Self-Study: 40 Hours
Didactic (classroom) Hours: 40 Hours
Laboratory/Clinical Hours: 60 Hours

Class times: Tuesday (via zoom) and Thursday (in person at SAD 1 Adult Ed) evenings, 7:00-9:00pm
Labs: Fridays, 9:00am - 3:30pm at St. Apollonia Dental Office in Presque Isle.

3. Baseline skills inventory reading and math to identify academic assistance to support student success
Cost: $3,950.00 — includes instruction, text & workbooks, hands-on pre-lab and lab training as well as supplies, CPR/BLS certification, certification exam fees. *Additional student costs include scrubs and comfortable shoes.
*Financial assistance may be available for qualified students.
There is NO COST to complete the application. No payment will be made until a learner is ACCEPTED into the program, pending the interview and CASAS testing.
